The Misadventures of Olive (and the reason there is no stand this week)

Hi there everyone!  Well if you got this far past the subject of this blog you probably already got the message - no produce stand this week.  :(  Olive, our new (and exceptionally adorable) orphan kitten is the culprit this week...

I was taking a very relaxing and much needed bath last night...the whole 9 yards - aromatherapy bubble bath, a cup of herbal tea in an oh-so-dainty antique teacup, a homemade honey mask and cucumbers over the eyes...oh yes!  and lest i forget - Murder She Wrote quietly playing in the background.....a very, very guilty pleasure (and only those on the email list will ever have insight into this little vice of mine...it's the only one, I swear...besides, of course, Matlock...and Law & Order....)

Well, it was in the middle of my quality time with Angela Lansbury and the mysteries of Cabot Cove that I hear one big "SPLAT" coming from somewhere beyond the warm and steamy haven I had sunk into.

But by the time I got out of the bath I had forgotten all about it.  The kitty was meowing frantically at the door to get out - odd - as she would prefer to be a purely indoor feline.  I let her out only to turn around and find the horror from which she was escaping...

Eggs....ALLLLLLLLLLLLL the eggs...ooeey gooey, cracked and broken spreading like that pool of blood which was so obviously ketchup in "Angela Fletcher's" latest murder mystery.  Prior to my bath I had taken out the basket of eggs we had collected this week to clean and package...and somehow that mischievous kitty (aka Princess Party Pants - parties all night...sleeps all day) had knocked them over - probably the result of excessive partying on the table top.

With no eggs this week and kale in recovery - we decided maybe it's a good week to take off.

So, unless anyone wants scrambled floor omelette for breakfast...we'll see y'all next week.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello everyone!  And happy 2013!  Wow.  We made it - and without any cataclysmic cosmic events, poles shifting, or worldwide seismic disasters (phew!)....well at least none that I am aware of - we have hardly left our little oasis (the farm, of course!).  :)

Well, this week at our produce stand we have...
FARM FRESH EGGS
PECANS
TURNIPS
ICICLE RADISHES
BEETS
KALE
HEIRLOOM TOMATOES

...no biscotti this week....sorry to all the biscotti fans!  I had a husband in great need of a lemon meringue pie...so really, blame him  :)

And more veggies soon to come!  We now have 2 hoop houses up and planted to get a jump start on the spring growing season.  So, if the current veggie variety doesn't strike your fancy, keep an eye out - more is coming!

Also, we still have an orchard FULL of pecans that are ready for the picking.  It is the last of our crop and we could sure use some extra hands to pick and shell - for those who are willing.  Pick or shell in exchange for pecans or veggies!  It can be a real fun time!  We love pecan season.... outside, good music playing, and in the company of good people.  :)  Give me, Dana, a call or text if you're interested!  (575.613.2029)  Or just shoot us an email!

Hope everyone has had a wonderful and safe holiday!  Hope to see y'all tomorrow!
